Scattered foxing to preliminaries, otherwise contents clean and secure in original red cloth binding with decorative stamping in gilt and in blind at spine and front board. Cloth chipped at head of spine, corners rubbed through, and missing a 2 inch section of backstrip at bottom of spine. Nineteenth century engraved bookplate of "Joseph Wood" with image of colonial gentleman seated reading a book under trees in his garden with stately country home in the background. Owner's signature in pencil on ffep "Joseph Wood / Febry. 1874" This volume includes numerous steel engravings and a map with tissue guards including: (1) Engraved Titlepage for series with H.M.S. The Duke of Wellington; (2) Portrait of Admiral Sir Charles Napier; (3) Portrait of H.R.H. Duke of Cambridge; (4) Portrait of Lord Raglan; (5) Portrait of Marshal St. Arnaud; (6) Portrait of Omar Pasha - Commander of the Turkish Army; (7) Bombardment of Odessa; (8) Gallant Affair of the Hecla and Arrogant; (9) Double Page Map of the Black Sea; (10) Double Page Map of the Baltic Sea. .

At The Antiquarian Book Shop, located in Georgetown - an historic neighborhood of Washington, D.C. we have been buying, selling & appraising rare, interesting and scholarly books in Georgetown for more than 30 years. Over those many years we have taken great pleasure from satisfying our customers' eclectic literary requirements in the shop and hope to continue in that tradition now that we have moved our operation on-line.Currently, our catalogued inventory includes about 4,000 books from the sixteenth century through the twentieth century in a variety of subject areas. Our stock comprises antiquarian books, collectible books and scholarly books, as well as a selection of antique prints and ephemera.The books listed here represent only a small portion of our total inventory. We are in the process of cataloguing the extensive holdings in our warehouse (15,000+ books) and hope to flesh out these pages over the months to come.
