Three previous owners names, two dated -1720 & 1762, on front blank free endpaper. Overall a very good clean copy in contemporary full red morocco. Spine with raised bands, the compartments decoratively tooled and lettered in gilt. Elaborate gilt panneling on boards with floral and vine corner decorations. All within a double ruled border. Marbled endpapers. The book has been rebacked with the original spine laid down. The inner hinges marbled paper repaired to match. Some cracking and loss to the old leather. The outer corners rubbed and bumped. Overall this is still an attractive early 18th century binding.:

Cambridge University Press. 1900. FIRST EDITION. 8vo. (8.9 x 6 inches). Neat previous owner name to the top of the front blank free endpaper and a neat 4 line inscription on the verso of the same leaf. Some sporadic foxing throughout and a few pages with neat pencil underlining (which could be easily erased if desired) otherwise a very good copy in publishers dark blue cloth with the spine lettered in gilt. Boards with single blind ruled border lines. Spine has a few small white marks to the cloth and the book is a bit rubbed and bumped to the edges but Overall this is a very good copy of Russell's third book. Only 1500 copies were published.

R. Ackermann. London. 1813 (Circa 1870?). PORTFOLIO OF 13 PLATES. No text, as issued. (Paper size 14.9 x 11.3 inches. The portfolio is 15.5 x 12 inches). Portrait of Blake, by T. Phillips, RA; Engraved title page (dated 1808) and 11 plates, all stating Ackermann as publisher, dated 1813 and engraved by Louis Schiavonetti, after Blake's designs. The pages have a little bumping to the edges but well away form the engraved area. Plates a little dusty and toned but the impressions are good. The original portfolio is brown Morocco grained cloth with elaborate blind tooled designs to both boards. Gilt lettering to the front board. Only one small piece of one silk tie remaining. Yellow coated endpapers. 3 small clippings from bookseller catalogues, each listing copies of the Blair/Blake book, tipped in to the front pastedown endpaper. Raised bands with gilt wavy lines on the spine. The compartments ruled and decorated in gilt. Red and green Morocco labels, double ruled and lettered in gilt. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Gilt inner dentelles. Faint mark to the front board and a crack to the inner front endpaper, but the board is firm and tight and there is no cracking to the leather. Overall a near fine copy of this classic work.

A very good book in a fine attractive leather binding of full red Morocco. Spine with five raised bands. The compartments ruled, lettered and decorated in gilt. Gilt inner dentelles. Top edge gilt. Decorative patterned endpapers printed in green, black and red. A hint of rubbing to the extremities but overall a near fine copy. The binding is unsigned but is certainly the work of a master bookbinder.

Spine with five raised bands. Title label ruled and lettered in gilt. Blind tooling around the lighter tan panels on both boards. A little rubbing to the edges and splitting to the very top and bottom of the hinges only, with both boards still firmly attached. A very good copy in a lovely mid 18th century binding. ----- Collation: lvi (including publishers advert leaf), (i errata leaf, i blank), 517pp, (1 blank), 82pp ( The two sermons have separate title pages and a separate sequence of pagination; the register is continuous.
