Book #17 of 23 in the original series published 1948-1966 in the popular YA boys' series featuring freshman sports hero, Chip Hilton, & his understanding coach, Hank Rockwell, both based on the author's real life & experiences. Reissued in the late 1990s, these originals are highly collectible. This is a FIRST EDITION, First Printing from 1953, listing to self in front matter, with self summary on front flap & back cover of DJ. Hardcover 12mo (5" x 7.5") has brown tweed cloth-covered boards stamped with picture of baseball equipment on front/lettering to spine. Condition is Near Fine: exceptionally clean & bright, binding strong & straight, hinges intact, pages creamy white with mild tanning to edges, but unmarked. Light stain to top outside page edges, with no impact on interior. The unclipped DJ is VG-/Good+, with modest edgewear & a rubbed/scraped spot to front cover & lower spine (sticker pull), light soil, small chips, 1 small tear descending from top edge of back cover; no fading.
