Mark Johnson served as an assistant coact at the University of New Mexico, the University of ARizona, Mississippi State University, and two years at Texas a and M University. In 1985 he became head baseball coach for the Texas A and M Aggies. During Johnson's first eleven seasons as head coach of the Aggies, the team won three South West Conference Championships, advanced to the Regional Playoffs eight times, and the final NCAA Sweet Sixteen six times. During this period the Aggies averaged 45 wins per season, exceeding the previous school record of only 41 wins in 1984. Under Johnson, his teams (Arizona, Mississippi State, Texas A and M) have a achieved a .306 combined batting average.
