Sobre este artículo
New York: Doubleday & McClure Co., 1900. First edition with the Howard Pyle illustrations. Hardcover. Very good overall. Edwin Markham [1852-1940] was an American poet, educator and poet laureate of Oregon from 1923-1931; considered by many to be an important voice in American poetry. Illustrations by famed illustrator Howard Pyle. The poem is said to be inspired by Jean-François Millet's painting L'homme à la Houe, a painting interpreted as a socialist protest about the peasant's plight.
Crown 8vo, (6 5/8" x 9"), 114 pp, publisher's brown cloth board covers with gilt titles and decoration by Sarah Wyman Whitman on spine and front board. A very crisp, bright copy, with the slightest sunning on the spine and a couple of very minor marks.
