Contemporary owner's name in ink to the front free endpaper ("A.L. Simnett[?]"), dated December 1942. The book contained within a contemporary home-made cloth dustwrapper extensively decorated in pen and ink to the front panel and spine with illustrations of Cairo street scenes and Egyptian antiquities, also incorporating manuscript titles. A very good copy, the binding secure; the contents with two creases to the front free endpaper and some light scattered foxing are otherwise in good order. The cloth dustwrapper with a few spots of light foxing is otherwise in very good order. A comprehensive and entertaining account of contemporary Egypt by the French writer Fernand Leprette (1890-1970), best known for his role within the literary and artistic life of Egypt during the inter-war period. An unusual copy, contained within a home-made cloth dustwrapper decorated in pen and ink with scenes of Egyptian life, presumably created by a British serviceman whilst stationed in Egypt during the Second World War.
