Tokyo: Shunyodo Shoten, 1979. Fine. Iwasaki Kanen. A portfolio of 20 color prints: 6 10 x 7.25 in. tipped into 12.5 x 9.5 in folios, and 14 measuring 10 x 14.25 in. tipped into 12.5 x 17 in. folios. Accompanied by 12-page booklet in Japanese. Fine in stiff card chistu case. The Honzou Zufu was originally published in 92 volumes between 1830 and 1844, and was a monumental treatise on botany during the Edo period in Japan. Prior to its production, most botany works in Japan were based on Chinese sources. Iwasaki sought to compile a work focused on native Japanese plants. It therefore became a foundational reference on Japanese botany, as well as a significant work of art, with many color illustrations of the plants documented. This set is a selection of twenty pages and spreads printed in facsimile.
