New York: Orange Judd and Company, 1871. Hardcover. Fair. First edition, first state with the words "was out" in line 3 of page 71. Blind ruled terra-cotta cloth with gilt-stamped spine. Illustrated with engraved plates by Frank Beard. Contemporary owner's gift inscription on front pastedown and on the preface, page 29 loose and laid in, cloth and pages stained, extremities severely worn and frayed, thus a fair only copy. Eggleston's first book, scarce in the first state.
