CONDITION: Very good, pastedowns lightly foxed, ffep with residue of removed label, rear pastedown also with residue of two removed labels. First edition, first printing. With "the error ciper for cipher" occurring at p. 187, line 16. One of only two collections of Twain's essays published in his lifetime, including his reflections on storytelling, his "private history" of the Jumping Frog, and his account of an instance of telepathy.
