Howard Pyle (1853 - 1911) was a major American illustrator and author, primarily of books for young people. <br/> <br/> After his death, the publisher collected a number of his pirate stories and illustrations and published them as Howard Pyle's Book of Pirates (1921); then, this collection: Howard Pyle's Book of the American Spirit, compiled by the distinguished historian, Merle Johnson.<br/> <br/> Overall in Very Good Condition: tight, internally unmarked pages, moderate wear to cloth and front cover plate, very light uniform toning and the occasional small smudge to paper.
