Pp x, 68, with 42 black and white illustrations. 2 coloured coats of arms laid on to title and final page. Bookplate and neat ownership inscription dated 1938 of Antarctic expert, Brian Birley Robert. For many years he was closely involved in Antarctic affairs, playing a leading role in the drafting of the Antarctic Treaty and providing so much of the basic framework for todays wildlife and environmental protection legislation. With the Antarctic always his principal interest, he played a key role in the development of the Antarctic Treaty system and of the policies resulting in the establishment and evolutions of what now the British Antarctic Survey.
