Nelson Doubleday (imprint of Science Fiction Book Club) hard cover with dust jacket, first edition, first printing March 1977 (code H06), SFBC #1427, 214 pages, cover art by Chet Jezierski. 8vo (8.5"" x 5.75"") First edition, followed by a DAW mass paperback in August 1977. Later reprinted by the book club with different cover art and a different catalog number. 12th place, 1978 Locus Poll Award. Second in series, preceded by Brothers of Earth. Set in the author's Union-Alliance universe.

It was published by DAW Books, first as a Science Fiction Book Club selection through Nelson Doubleday in March 1977 and then in a DAW paperback edition in August of that year. The work is set in Cherryh's Alliance-Union universe.
