US: Pantheon Books, 1955. Hardback. Very Good/Very Good. Two Volume Set. Beautiful black cloth over boards with gilt particulars and decoration to spine; gilt decoration to boards. Housed in publisher's original black paper-covered slipcase with red titling in tan compartment to front board. Pages are clean and unmarked. Soiling to fore edge of vol. 1; otherwise, text block is clean; top edge sprayed yellow but is moderately faded. Soiling to top edge of front endpapers at vol. 1. Boards are bright with corners and ends of spine bumped; soiling to front board of vol. 1 at outer hinge. Dust jacket is scuffed with foxing to top half of spine and corners cut at flaps; vol. 1 has rubbing to fore edge of front cover, creasing to edge of spine and writing in blue pen to inside of rear flap. Binding is tight and square. Slipcase is scuffed and rubbed particularly to edges and corners with one small chip at lower edge of front board and two small chips at top edge of rear board.
