FRONT COVER READS: "SALON BIGOTT DE ARTE POPULAR" Art catalogue of the first salon of contemporary Venezuelan folk art at the Centro de Arte de Maracaibo. Many of the entries are included in the catalogue as well as the winners: José Tomás Barazarte whose two pieces won the grand prize, Antonia Azuaje, Rosa Contreras, Elsa Morales, Socorro Salinas, José Ramón Valero and Blanco Aparicio. Text offers discussion on the importance and place of folk art in the art scene as well as an homage to an important figure in Venezuelan folk art, Manasés who has done much to open many doors and serves as a point of reference for contemporary popular art. Catalogue also includes many beautiful color images of the art works from emerging Venezuelan artists.
