Ian Sinclair's book is unique in that it is the first to use full-colour photographs to identify the more than 900 species known to occur from Antarctica to the Zambezi River. Of the many thousands of colour photographs submitted by leading professional and amateur bird photographers, those showing most clearly the colouring and characteristics of each bird were finally selected. The book is divided into more than 153 plates, each grouping similar bird which are often difficult to distinguish in the field. Facing every plate is a succinct comparative description in order to help with field identification.
