Sobre este artículo

London: Edward Moxon, 1862. Leather. Good. 6.5" by 4". None. A collection of four narrative poems by Alfred Lord Tennyson which form part of the cycle of Idylls of the King. Including Enid, Vivien, Elaine and Guinevere. These poems famously retell the legend of King Arthur. This cycle of work would be written over a period 26 years, reaching a total of twelve poems. This particular volume includes the first set of Idylls, with these first poems originally published in 1859. Heavily influenced by his poetic predecessors, in particular John Keats and the romantic poets,Tennyson worked hard to shape his craft. He became a master of the use of metre and demonstrated a richness of imagery that still resonates to this day. Tennyson is perhaps one of Britain's best loved poets, and is still the longest acting poet laureate for Britain, holding the position for forty-two year, right up until his death in 1892. In a red morocco binding. Externally, smart, with just some light rubbing and a few marks. Front hinge strained, causing a closed tear to the title page. Ink signature to front free-endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright, with just a few instances of foxing. Good

Sinopsis

The longest and most ambitious work of his career, Idylls is a reflection of Tennyson's lifelong interest in Arthurian themes. His personification of Arthur, the highest ideal of manhood and leadership, is achieved through a delicacy of phrase and metrical effect that are unmatched.
