Includes an advertisement page after title page stating this book would have been released earlier, but "impediments" and the plates delayed its release. There is also included a section for Notes and Errata. Without previous owners' names or other markings. 259 pp., [1]. 5 1/4 x 8 1/4 inches.

1881 George Cruikshank Comic ART Almanack Caricature Thackeray Illustrated Humor

George Cruikshank was one of England's best and most notable 19th-century caricaturists and book illustrators.

The 'Comic Almanack' is a collection of 19th-century tales and poems etched by George Cruikshank. This work includes the works of famed authors such as Thackeray, Albert Smith, the Brothers Mayhew, Robert Brough and Gilbert A'Beckett.
"In 1835 Cruikshank issued the first number of the 'Comic Almanack,' with a dozen 'right merrie' cuts (etchings) 'pertaining to the months' by himself, and a few minor embellishments. Sometimes the letterpress was supplied by distinguished contributors. To the issue for 1839 Thackeray contributed 'Stubb's Calendar, or the Fatal Boots,' to be followed in 1840 by 'Barber Cox, and the Cutting of his Comb,' afterwards called 'Cox's Diary.'" (DNB).
This undated edition contains hundreds of illustrations, many of which are folding.

George Cruikshank was one of England's best and most notable 19th-century caricaturists and book illustrators. In 1841, Cruikshank sought an outlet for his for his art that he had complete control over – no publisher or editor control. The result was the 'Omnibus'
in 1842. This 'Omnibus' contained numerous comedic articles, essays, and even short stories with 100 engravings on both wood and steel engravings of the famed Cruikshank art.

1910 IN GOOD++ CONDITION. Circa 1910? Accordian folding book, measuring 4-1/4 inches tall, by 2 inches wide, with 24 folding panels, depicting 6 hand-painted, ink and watercolor scenes of graphic, erotic sexual positions. The male genitals are not exaggerated, the scenes are depicted unclothed, while laying on rugs, leaves and fabric. The females depicted have unbound hair, sometimes wearing a red ribbon in it. No text on panels. Covers are paper over boards, with Chinese characters on front and back covers. Small corner damp mark, not affecting the images, slight rubbing to edges, occasional light foxing. COLORS ARE STILL VIBRANT.

An unusual book featuring 26 pp of verse, printed on one side of thick paper, each illustrated with full colour chromolithographs of anthropomorphised knives, pots and pans, tea kettles, clothes pegs, teaspoons, etc, in fact pretty much anything that you might find in an early twentieth century kitchen. Original thick card boards with full colour illustrations and lettering to the front panel, the rear plain red. Red cloth spine. There is some rubbing to the edges of the boards but overall this is a lovely, near fine copy of this scarce edition. J & F. Hunt- Peeps into Nisterland. Quarto, pp 130, (6), + 60 colour chromolithograph plates on thick stippled paper, the text pages uncut and unopened, the plates with a facing protective page containing the name (these facing page are a bit aged and browned and fraying at the edges,, the plates are still clean, sound and unmarked), all pages are loose as issued in this form, in an original green folder with silver lettering, slightly worn and marked, and lacking the upper ties (of three). A duplicate from the Royal Horticultural lLndley Library, this copy being the Reginald Cory bequest copy, with two labels on the front endpaper, but no other markings. [Cory had a passion for plants and botany and in the early 1930s he undertook a number of plant hunting expeditions, and commissioned others, some of the results of which are exhibited at Dyffryn. He would also share plants with other gardens, including the Cambridge Botanic Garden. Amongst other features, the gardens bear evidence of his trips to Italy.… Leer más

Fully illustrated with frontis, decorative title page and 218 pages with decorative engraved borders and many with engraved vignettes inside the border, all by Daniel Maclise. A few small marks to a handful of pages but generally a very bright and clean copy throughout. Finely bound in nineteenth century full red morocco. Spine with double raised bands, each with a wide gilt line between them. Compartments ruled, lettered, and fully decorated in gilt. Both boards with double gilt ruled borders and decorative design within. Board edges bevelled. Marbled endpapers. Elaborate gauffered pages edges, gilt. Decorative gilt turn-ins. Armorial bookplate to the front paste down endpaper. Some rubbing and marking to the binding but overall a lovely copy of this beautiful book.

Illustrated with 10 hand coloured plates, 7 black and white plates (of which three are folding), various text illustrations (some full page), some offsetting of text on to plates, some browning and ageing throughout, one weak internal hinge in the fifth volume, otherwise all firm and tight. Volumes 1 - 3 bound in half calf and marbled boards, rubbed, joints slightly weak, with the book label of Joseph Alexander Walton; Volumes 4 and 5 in original ribbed cloth with rubbed paper labels, a little fraying of the spines, bookplate of Thomas Bowyer Bower. A scarce complete set. [Paxton was an English gardener, architect, engineer and Member of Parliament, best known for designing the Crystal Palace and for cultivating the Cavendish banana, the most consumed banana in the Western world.
