Hardcover without dust jacket, 176 pages including drawings;---Note re edition: the copyright page states "This book is manufactured in strict conformity with Government regulations for saving paper", presumably the United States Government's injunction during The Great War (later renamed as World War One), and as there are no statements of later printings, this printing is assumed to be the first;---book in dark navy (almost black) cloth covers with the main title inside a circular snake emblem, all in gilt, on front cover, moderate shelf wear to cover corners, edges and spine ends, traces of faded old soiling/staining to covers, ink signature dated "'74" on free front endpaper, underlinings in ink (and a few scattered notes in ink) on forty-two pages, all otherwise clean and unmarked.
