Photographs taken by a Nikon 7100 digital SLR equipped with a 60 mm macro lens and a polarizing filter mounted on a monopod. The specimen images, created using photopolymer plates made by Boxcar Press, habitat spreads, and handset type were letterpress printed on thick Awagami Kozo with Niyodo Kozo overlays using a Vandercook Universal III abp Press. First edition of Jefferies' first novel, published at the author's own expense; this copy being Miller & Matthews third variant, with the uncorrected dedication leaf and without advertisements. 8vo. 309pp. Professionally re-cased retaining the original decorated cloth but with new endpapers. Just a touch of very minor soiling to several leaf margins. A very good copy of an extremely uncommon book - rarely found in the original binding, this example admittedly having undergone some careful restoration. Former owner bookplate to the front pastedown. Miller & Matthews (B4.3) estimate a print run of 500 copies, issued in three batches in July 1874, spring 1875 and this third one sometime afterwards but before August 1877..

Original green cloth with bevelled edges, the spine and upper boards gilt lettered and decorated, with blind-stamped decorations to the rear boards. All edges gilt. The cloth lightly marked in places, with some bruising to the spine ends. A touch of light very occasional spotting. The binding of volume eight cracked and splitting at the front hinge and most gatherings quite tender as a result. The half title and title page of volume six detached and laid-in, and five further volumes exhibit some tenderness to the front hinges and one a short tear to the upper gutter. A nice bright set, somewhat marred by the aforementioned binding issues, but really very crisp internally. A rare, mid-19th-century huge family Bible, containing both Old and New Testaments. This Bible is filled with notes, commentary, and scriptural references by Scottish minister John Brown of Haddington. Brown's 'Self-Interpreting Bible' is considered to be one of the best Bible interpretations of the late 18th-century. It was first published in Edinburgh in 1778 and contains histories, chronologies, and simple summaries which were designed to reach to poor and inexperienced readers in Scotland.

Italia: n.p., 1835. Very Good. 19 cm; 20 pages (three blank), including 7 full-page illustrations with captions. Text and illustrations lithographed throughout. Bound in (later?) plain wraps. Not in Melzi. No copies located. Apparently unrecorded booklet with text and illustrations produced completely in lithograph. The text reproduces an italic calligraphy that must have been lettered in reverse on stone, or written out on transfer paper before being applied to the lithographic stone. The narrative concerns a lady who is handily juggling simultaneous affairs with a young man and with the young man's father.

Pieter Harting was 19th-century Dutch scientist who is best remembered for his contributions to the development and use of the microscope and microscopy. He published what proved to be the greatest book on microscopy, titled simple 'The Microscope', which provided lessons on using the microscope as well as covering designs for lens improvements.
It should be noted that Harting was one of the earliest supporters of Charles Darwin's evolutionary theories, many of which were endorsed by Harting's microscope findings. In fact, according to Darwin scholar Eve-Marie Engels, Harting was "one of the most influential" of all 19th-century scientists and philosophers.
This 1848 Dutch edition of 'The Microscope' is illustrated with 18 impressive folding engravings featuring numerous figures depicting microscope parts, lenses, cells, burners, and scalpels.

1871 Japanese Woodblock 18 Histories Outline China Song Dynasty Xianzhi Meiji 7v
Today, "Eighteen History Outlines" is still the most read history book by Japanese people. (Chen Sunchen)
A 19th-century Sino-Japanese woodblock printing of "Eighteen Histories Outlines" bound in the fukurotoji style. "Eighteen Histories Outlines" (Shiba shilue 十八史略) is a concise general history text created in the Yuan dynasty written by the Song Dynasty scholar Zeng Xianzhi, which achieved widespread popularity in the Ming dynasty. During the Meiji Restoration period, a demand for abbreviated histories arose in Japan leading to large-scale publications of 'Eighteen Histories Outlines' and creating "a profound impact on Japanese society, culture, and historiography, with a legacy extending into the contemporary period." This book was used as required material in primary schools and as a textbook for government officials in learning Chinese history.

1840 HANDEL Dettingen Te Deum Classical Music Austrian Succession WAR

Alongside Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frederic Handel was one of the two greatest Baroque music composers. Best known for his 'Messiah', Handel was responsible for hundreds of pieces of music, many of which were written with liturgical texts. Handel's 1743 masterpiece 'Dettingen Te Deum' was written in honor of the British victory at Dettingen in the War of Austrian Succession.
Handel, who had become proud of his English home, wrote this setting of 'Te Deum' for the day King George II appointed a day of celebration in honor of the victory. Like many of Handel's works, it features chorus, full orchestra, and solos.
This Varey edition of Handel features a piano reduction as well as the choral and solo parts.
