New-Bedford: Abraham Shearman, 1805. 16mo, pp. 256; a sheep binding under an applied over-binding of full sheep, red morocco label on original spine showing through a diecut window in the over-binding; sheep a bit rubbed, short tear on spine where label shows through; light foxing, ex-Hollis Social Library, with their bookplate and a very small rubberstamp on the title page. Payne was a publisher and associate of Samuel Johnson. His translation of A Kempis first appeared in 1785, and is printed here with his 38-page preface. American Imprints 8672.
