Sobre este artículo

Rock Island, IL: Augustana Historical Society, 1972 Augustana Historical Society, Rock Island, IL. 1972. Hardcover. First Edition. Signed by the author on the title page. Augustana Historical Scoiety Publication No. 23. Book is tight, square, and unmarked but for a gift inscription on the FFFP dated 1972. Book Condition: Near Fine; slight head and tail wear from shelving. No DJ. Green cloth boards and spine with bright gilt lettering on the spine and the front board. 97 pp 8vo. Hjalmar came to America from Sweden after completing his basic education to join the Union Army in the Civil War and actually saw the battle of the Monitor and the Merrimac. Illness forced his resignation from the Army in 1863. He then became a graduate student and teacher at Yale and later professor and dean at the U of Nebraska, a translator Sanskrit and American literature and a poet. For intermittent periods, he was a teacher at Lund University in Sweden and a professor at Goteborg University. His dual loyalty enriched not only his life but also both nations. A clean very presentable copy.
