Indenture binding Wm. Dorman to Joseph Lee [apprenticeship to saddler]

1801. Very Good. 1 handwritten document, folded. On 29 June, 1801, William Dorman, son of Jesse Dorman, of Gloucester Co., N.J., was apprenticed to Joseph Lee, saddler, of Salem Co., N.J., until Nov. 1, 1806, when Dorman would reach the age of 21. The requirements of both the master, Joseph Lee, and the new apprentice, William Dorman, are explained. Dorman had to keep his master's secrets and could not play cards or dice, "frequent taverns or ale houses," or marry. Lee had to teach Dorman "in the art and occupation" of saddlery and give him 3 months of "Day Schooling at an English School," as well as feed, house, and clothe him.
