The Infernal Marriage is the eighth novel written by Benjamin Disraeli who would later become Prime Minister of Great Britain.
Printed at the Curwen Press. Limited edition hand signed by the artist #6 of 850. Hand-colored frontispiece in the pochoir style; plus 4 of the plates.
Quarter blue morocco over beige cloth boards, gilt-lettered spine; top edge gilt. The bindings are tight and square. Text clean, light even toning. Moderate shelf handling wear, with spine sun-toned a lovely brown and boards with hand soiling. 4to; 85 pages followed by bibliography of books with illustrations by John Austen [16 plates and chapter headers.]. The novelist William Beckford appreciated the novel conveying the message to its author via a friend, 'Pray tell Disraeli that I have read, enjoyed, and admired his Infernal Marriage. The sly, dry humour of that most original composition is to me delightful.'
The artist, John Austen, a British book illustrator, was influenced by the Art Deco movement.
