Dustjacket creased and slightly soiled, some shelfwear or insect nibbles to lower edges of boards, top edge lightly spotted. The first volume of a projected autobiography that deals with Winn's appearance as a boy actor in Dame Sybil Thorndyke's Company, the birth of his career as novelist; includes what is regarded as one of the most authentic portraits of his literary mentor Somerset Maugham.
