Sobre este artículo
London: Frederick Warne & Co., 1894. Book. Illus. by Leech, John and George Cruikshank. Near Fine. Leather. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. London; Warne, 1894. 8vo. Leather. With 18 illustrations by Cruikshank, Leech, etc. and portrait. 520 p. Leather with gilt embellishments and raised spine bands. Marbled endpapers and marbling to all edges. The Ingoldsby Legends are a collection of myths, legends, ghost stories and poetry written by Thomas Ingoldsby, which is the pen-name of Richard Harris Barham, an English novelist and humorist poet. The legends were first printed in 1837 as a regular series in Bentley's Miscellany and later in New Monthly Magazine. The legends were illustrated by John Leech and George Cruikshank. They proved immensely popular and were compiled into books published in 1840 and 1843. They remained popular through the Victorian era. This edition was specially leather-bound and presented to a student in the Fourth Form at Katharine Lady Berkeley's Grammer School of Wotton-Under-Edge in 1895 as a prize for English literature. It bears the school's seal on the cover, and the bookplate with dedication inside, signed by Frederick Wm Morris, Headmaster. A spotless edition with minor shelfwear -- a very attractive volume. Near fine..
