The scarce Carmine Edition of the Ingoldsby Legends, accompanied by numerous in-text illustrations by John Leech, George Cruikshank, and John Tenniel, alongside seventeen plates, collated and complete. First printed as a series in Bentley's Miscellany, this collection of myths, legends, and ghost stories by English clergymen Richard Harris Barham proved immensely popular, and has been referenced in literary works by H.G. Wells, Henry James, and Rudyard Kipling since its its initial publication in 1837. In a quarter calf binding over marbled boards. Externally, generally smart. A little rubbed to the boards, with some light rubbing to the spine, joints, and extremities. The front hinge is very tender, and may fail with more handling. The rear hinge is starting, but firm. Internally, firmly bound, with bright and clean pages throughout. Good
