This edition is the last amended by Smith in 1789, with the later addition of a new Life of the Author and comparative studies by M. Garnier. The full leather binding is faded and worn (with tender spine joints) but had gilt decoration and labels to spines. The boards are tree calf - generally free from scuffing but with worn corners. Contents: Vol I: title page; advertisements to the 3rd and 4th editions 2pp; advertisement to the present edition 2pp; contents list 2pp; short account of the writings pp ix-xl; a short view of the doctrine pp xli-lxxi; blank; text pp 1-352; table of wheat prices 8pp; blank; rear free endpaper with slight loss to edge. Vol II: title page; contents list 4pp; text pp 1-512; appendix 2pp; blank. Vol III: title page with small repair to top; contents list 3pp; text pp 1-448; index 50pp with pge 5 small repaired paper flaw; blank; rear endpaper with fold. All the front free endpapers have a neat ink signature of Wm Brown, Sutton, January 20th 1814. There is some grubbiness/marking generally to endpapers and a little spottiness to title pages. The last index page in Vol III has some foxing. Otherwise, contents generally clean and bright.
