A very clean, tight and rare copy in original brown cloth in very good condition. Very slight bumps to spine and covers. Title in gilt lettering on spine and upper boards, incl. gilt tooled hieroglyphs between a gilt border also on upper cover. Red marbled endpapers and marbled edges. (xxi), 955pp. 2 full-page maps as a double frontisp., many plates, of which plans of temples, text-figs. and ills, diagrammes, full-page coloured maps and plans, index, list of contents, and important notice on Bakshish, list of Egyptological words.This work represents far more information to the tourist than the usual tourist-guide. Originally drawn up in 1886 in accordance to the suggestions of his [Wallis Budge's] friend Mr. J.M. Cook with vast information on ancient monumental Egypt.

Brown leather with gilt detailing and labels to spine. Four raised bands, silk ribbon, and moire endpapers. All edges gilt. Previous owner's stamp to title page and last page. Minor staining to boards and wear to gilt on edges, but overall a clean copy. Scarce.

Interior is tight, bright, and crisp with no ownership marks. Binding shows bumping of upper spine and some wear to edges. Very good copy of the third edition of Baedeker's Handbook for Travellers. This is the last edition of this handbook for Lower Egypt. 14 maps, 33 plans, 7 views and 76 vignettes. Book is very good. Soft leather boards clean. Binding tight. Edges marbled. Light cracking of hinge inside front cover but still very firm (see images).Cover has very small wear at corners and head and tail of spine.Only marking or inscription is name and address of previous owner in pencil on first blank with previous sale price and edition also in pencil. Tiny bookseller label on front pastedown.
Overall, a well preserved copy of an uncommon title.
