Publishers original brick red cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine, decorated with four black wheels and black panel lines on the front and rear boards, original yellow endpapers, sm 8vo. Freeman #1220. The American first edition was published from the stereos of the first English edition which also appeared in 1875. From the research collection of A. G. Brice of New Orleans with his bookplate on the front attached endpaper. Later from the collection of R. O. Rilett with his pencil signature dated Dec. 3, 1975, on the front free endpaper. Finally, from the research collection of herpetologist Lauren E. Brown dated Sept. 7, 2000, with his ink signature also on the front free endpaper.
