Originally serialized in Harper's Weekly, this is the first edition in book form of William Mumford Baker's Inside: A Chronicle of Secession, written under the pseudonym George F. Harrington.. Octavo, vi, [7]-223pp. Publisher's brown cloth, title stamped in gilt on spine, printed in double columns. Toning to spine and top edge of front cover, back joint cracked along top inch of spine. Top edge of covers and corners bumped and rubbed, worn through in places. Spine ends rubbed with some loss of cloth. Toning and light soiling to endpapers, light toning to pages 177 to end, a few smudges to text pages, small closed tear to fore edge of pages 67/68. (Wright II 195) (Sabin 30453) (Hamilton 1129). A good example of this novel about southern society during the Civil War.
