Livingstone (born August 3, 1946) is an American business executive, author, political candidate, television commentator and security and terrorism expert. He was the founder, chairman, and CEO of GlobalOptions Inc., an international risk management company that he took public in 2005. He is the author of ten books and hundreds of articles on terrorism, intelligence, and national security. He is a frequent commentator on national security issues. In 1973, Halevy fought and was injured in the Yom Kippur War. He is still a lieutenant colonel in the Israeli defense force reserve. Halevy turned to journalism and first worked as a freelance stringer before becoming Time's Jerusalem correspondent in 1976. The authors describe the origins and rise of the Palestine Liberation Organization, its complex structure, and the personalities who preside over it. They say that the PLO is equal parts terrorist organization and multinational corporation, involved in murder, extortion, and drug trafficking. Former Time correspondent Livingstone and antiterrorist authority Halevy recommend caution in accepting PLO compromises, investigate Yassir Arafat and discuss the intifada .
