A very good full leather binding with crossed arrows decoration. 8vo. 8.75" x 5.5" x 0.75". pp.xiii/[3pp.]/pp.384. Tan leather binding with thin greek key border. edges rubbed and bumped. Spine with 5 raised bands. Compartments decorated with crossed arrows and gilt title. Top & tail carefully strengthened. Marbled page edges and matching endpapers.Inner gilt dentelles. Neat inked note to front free-endpaper: "W. Thornton, Brockhall." Clean Latin and Greek text througohut, just light spotting, mostly restricted to the margins. VG. ** William Thornton was born on 22 July 1806 in Brockhall, Northamptonshire. He married Anne Georgiana Frances Anson on 19 February 1846 in St Marylebone, Middlesex. They had seven children in 10 years. He died on 20 May 1881 at the age of 74.
