Bonn, Emil Strauss, 1901. 8vo (24.0 x 16.3 cm). xi, 261, [ii] pp., photographic frontispiece of a Javanese female danser, four maps, 79 text engravings, several fine photographic plates. Original blue cloth with gilt title on the spine and front board. Boards with bevelled edges. Marbled edges. Fine copy of the first edition of the well-illustrated travelogue by this famous German biologist. It includes several of Haeckel's "signature" marine invertebrate engravings. Small inscription on the front free endpaper, otherwise clean, unmarked. A near mint copy. Rare in this state.
