Sobre este artículo
Macmillan & Co Ltd. NY. 1902 (Reprint). 8vo, XXII, 448pp. Hardcover, rear hinge weak; in bottle green cloth with a variety of marks from over a century of referencing, text in overall good condition with flecking and discolouration on all edges but also with a perfect rendition of the prior owner's name signed on the ffep together with numerous finely written notations and underlinings throughout by E.G Waterhouse himself. As depicted by the author ' ... the intellectual life is really within the reach of everyone who earnestly desires it.' Various worthy topics are pondered and discussed though one's own opinions may differ as to such. "She knew nothing when I married her. I tried to teach her something, it made her angry, and I gave it up". Once part of the famous E G Waterhouse's library this book is a true gem. Much of the fascination of this book is of course relating to its prior owner Eben "Gowrie" Waterhouse C.M.G signed in 1903, aged only 22 yet already three years after graduating with Ist Class Honours in three languages from Sydney University. He notes under his signature that he was in the third year of yet further study. A truly great intellect in so many ways particularly famous for his work with camelias and horticulture in particular as well as languages and travel.
