Sobre este artículo

Federal Council Of Churches Of Christ In America, , 1910; 8vo,16 pgs; staple bound. A carefully reasoned address delivered in Philadelphia to the assembly of the Federal Council Of Churches Of Christ In America on the origins of international law and the need to abolish war, describing the historic contributions of Christianity, both good and bad, and setting forth a plan for the attainment of world peace. Beginning with the premise that the only substitute for war is arbitration, Rogers provides a detailed history of the courts at the Hague, citing a number of accomplishments as well as pointing out weaknesses. For the part of the Churches, he counsels that while it is natural for them to be interested in peace for moral reasons, they must also be interested for material ones. "Let the Churches educate the public opinion. Abolition of war is not a question that should be left solely to Peace Societies, Chambers Of Commerce, and to Peace Conferences. The Churches should exert their influence through the pulpit and through the religious press to awaken the public conscience and create a universal demand for the abolition of war, for a limitation of armaments, and for an International Court Of Arbitral Justice." The address closes with the enumeration of a series of resolutions to aid in the achievement of the stated goals. No publication date, but references within the text establish a date of 1910. Celebrated American attorney Henry Wade Rogers, L.L.D. (1853-1926) had held, among other distinguished positions, Professor of Law at the Univ. Of Michigan, President of Northwestern University, Chairman of the World’s Conference Of Jurisprudence and Law Reform at the Chicago Exposition in 1893, Dean Of the Law School At Yale University, and Federal judge to the Second Judicial Circuit Court Of Appeals. Very Good, clean, crisp, corners sharp, paper supple, no chips or tears, no ownership signatures or any other markings of any kind. An original booklet, not a reprint. Scarce.
