Tehran, Iran.: Ministry of Roads.. 03- 1962.. Double-sided color roadmap of Iran; English on one side and Persian on the other; folded to 9 x 4 inches. When open, map and decorative images measure 27 x 36 inches. Five inset maps, the largest (4 ½ x 6 ¼ inches) depicting Tehran. The map is in good condition overall, with breaks at three or four folds and light abrasion at top of the folded front cover.
Summary: When the map was created, the Shah of Iran had been on the throne for over 20 years. With the Revolution of 1979 the Shah fled the country, taking refuge, first in Egypt, then moving on to other locales, resigned to a peripatetic existence. He ultimately returned to Egypt where he succumbed to cancer in 1980. An uncommon map; a copy in the Library of Congress is dated 1963. .
