Sobre este artículo

New York: The Viking Press, 1983. First edition of Kennedy's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. Octavo, original half gray cloth. Signed by William Kennedy on the front free endpaper. Laid in is a newspaper article on Kennedy winning the Pulitzer Prize. Some offsetting to the half and title pages, otherwise fine in a fine dust jacket. Jacket design by Neil Stuart. A very nice example. Kennedy won the Pulitzer Prize for Ironweed in 1984, and he wrote the screenplay for the 1987 film adaptation directed by Hector Babenco, which starred Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep. The film was mostly shot in Albany. The film was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actor in a Leading Role (for Nicholson) and Best Actress in a Leading Role (for Streep). Kennedy's writing continues to paint an ever elaborate picture of the unique city Albany, New York.

Sinopsis

The third novel in William Kennedy’s Albany Cycle series, Ironweed (1983) is set during the Great Depression. It follows Francis Phelan, a drifter from Albany, New York. After a devastating accident where he killed his child, he becomes a wandering alcoholic, but at the beginning of the novel has returned home. Detailing Francis’s life following his homecoming, Ironwood tells the tragic tale of a man haunted by his past. The striking novel won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1984 and was adapted into a film in 1987.
