Examines the military and political aspects of the Iroquois' role in the American revolution and describes the impact of the Americans and British on the Indian culture. Barbara Graymont wrote the 1972 seminal account of the Iroquois during the Revolutionary War, found that Indian women had "significant influence" on whether warriors would fight or stay out of the fight. Barbara Graymont's history of the Iroquois in the American Revolution is a book based upon at lest three levels of research: archaeology, anthropology, and history. The result is a superb contribution to American minority history, for the author has not only given us a carefully documented historical account of the fighting that took place between the Iroquois (those who chose to fight with the British() and the Americans, she has also given us a portrait of the great aboriginal society which was al be decimated by General John Sullivan.
