He studied at the Higher Art and Technical Studios (VKhUTEMAS) under Ignatiy Nivinskiy and Vladimir Favorsky. He was one of the founders of the Society of Easel Painters (OST) and a member of art association Oktyabr'. In late 1920s and early 1930s he has collaborated with children's publishing houses and several magazines.
