Sobre este artículo
First edition. With a photogravure frontispiece and 12 lovely tissue-guarded plates by E. C. Peixotto. Publisher's original dark green cloth beautifully decorated on the upper cover and spine after designs by Margaret Armstrong. The lettering on both the cover and spine is in gilt. A handsome and bright copy of this lovely book, internally very fresh and clean. The pages are uncut pages to side and bottom and gilded to top.The Armstrong binding is fresh, vivid and clean with minor evidence of age damage to the top and bottom of spine.
A BEAUTIFUL ILLUSTRATED ITALIAN TRAVEL BOOK by a Pulitzer Prize winning author. Though the less famous then her collaboration with Maxfield Parrish this collection of nine essays is none-the-less appealing. Mr. Peixotto's art was far more familiar then his name, he had been a extremely successful illustrator of magazines and periodicals. Scribner's sent the young artist to Italy with Mrs. Wharton and then kept him at various points of the Mediterranean for over a year.
