With a tipped-in colour frontispiece and 16 beautiful full color plates on glossed paper, plus 400 additional black and white illustrations on 136 double-sided plates bound at the rear. Thick 4to, publisher’s original tan buckram lettered on the upper cover and spine in brown. In the original printed dustjacket with full color pastedown on the upper panel. xiii, 488 pp. including plates. A very good copy of the book, front hinge a bit tender, in a attractive but somewhat worn dust-jacket. An extremely useful reference beautifully illustrated. The edition was printed in tribute to Bernard Berenson, still today regarded as one of the words leading experts on the subject. The text is reprinted from 4 of his essays published originally from 1894 to 1907.
