In all three volumes the first doubleton, consisting of half-title and title, is set in duplicate, with two settings used for all three volumes in an indescriminate way. The exclamation mark after 'depart!' Todd and Bowden. This edition of ""Ivanhoe"" has two issues: only the first volume is altered, and can be identified by the press mark 9 on p. iii and on p. iv l. 6 the first word 'Peter' in the first issue. In the second issue where there are 2 variants, the press mark on p. iii is either 2 or not present and on p. iv l. 6 the first words are 'St Peter'. The final gathering Y of volume 1 is in duplicate setting, either with single quotation mark after 'journey' page 296 line 11 and in some copies figure 3 page 297, or with double mark and no figure.-- cf Todd and Bowden.
