Silver cloth embossed with chain mail pattern and orange spine lettering. xxx, 612pp. Frontispieces, numerous 2-page illustrations, small decorations, pictorial endpapers. Near fine. Lacks slipcase. Superb, tight pair of the first of the LEC's two productions of this title (the other being 1951). Colophon at rear of second volume notes limitation of 1500 numbered copies (this #942) signed large and bold by illustrator Lewis, whose dramatic linoleum-block plates are powerful and evocative. Heavy stock printed 5½" X 4½" announcement for this title laid in. NEWMAN 120.
Sinopsis
Ivanhoe is a novel by Sir Walter Scott. It was written in 1819 and set in 12th century England, an example of historical fiction. Ivanhoe is sometimes given credit for helping to increase popular interest in the Middle Ages in 19th century Europe and America.
