New York: Macmillan Company, 1911. Hard Cover. Very Good+ binding. 12mo. xx, [2], 468, [6 (ads)] pp., frontis, plate. First edition, signed and inscribed by Gordon. In publisher's cloth. Bottom corner of the front board is bumped, two other corners are softened; a clean, bright binding; a couple of leaves dog-eared with some soiling, including the half title, otherwise a clean copy. This copy has been warmly inscribed by Gordon to Eppa Hunton, Jr. who was the son of the Confederate General Eppa Hunton as well as a founding partner of the Richmond, VA law firm Hunton & Williams (now Hunton Andrews & Kurth). A nice association of a book that Nevins calls, "a complete, balanced study of the Alabama politician and congressman; based on Curry's papers, including many of his letters" CWB II, 36.
