Sobre este artículo

[African American] [Film] Jamaican film photo archive documenting reggae culture. Archive of 2 original vintage lobby cards. Jamaica is globally known as the Reggae mecca of the world, and Rockers from 1978 and The Harder They Come from 1972 explore the music and culture behind reggae, which spread world-wide. When reggae emerged, it came as a cultural bombshell not only to Jamaica but the whole world. It's relaxed tones with politically-motivated messaging influenced societies throughout the world, contributing to the development of new counterculture movements. 2 original vintage lobby cards.:
[1] The Harder They Come, 1972. lobby card Measures 9.25" x 12" in glossy color. The Jamaican crime film starring Jimmy Cliff was a sensation in Jamaica due to its naturalistic portrayal of black Jamaicans in real locations and its use of Jamaican Patois, the local creole. According to director Peter Henzell, "Black people seeing themselves on the screen for the first time created an unbelievable audience reaction". The film features an all reggae soundtrack, which helped popularize the music genre in the late 1970s. Photo features Jimmy Cliff and Janet Bartley in the film, with the French title "Tout, Tout de Suite" in the corner. [2] Rockers, 1978. Silver gelatin Photo lobby card, used in movie theaters, 8" x 10" glossy black and white. Rockers began as a documentary but formed into a full-length feature film showing reggae culture at its peak. Popular reggae artists star in the film including Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace, Burning Spear and Big Youth. Also featured in the film is the Harry J Recording Studios where many roots reggae artists recorded during the 1970s, including Bob Marley. Photo features Marjorie "Sunshine" Norman from a scene in the movie. Title of the film, director Theodoros Bafaloukos' name and "A New Yorker Films Release" are in the lower white margin. This small archive captures the reggae movement in film. Both lobby cards in very good condition.
