Quarto, first edition, pp. 247, 4 (index), blue cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine and front, 3 maps (1 folding), frontis photo portrait tipped in, lacking the dust jacket, ex-library showing former owner's unfortunate efforts to expunge the library's markings. Adventures of a trapper and covered wagon emigrant as told in his own reminiscences and diaries. Howes, C 81: "One of the most trustworthy narratives of the far west." Also see Streeter 3095, Rader 849 and Zamorano Eighty 19. Condition of this book: Both joints splitting with the back cover nearly detached, crease in cloth on front, clean inside, but only fair to good. Size: Quarto. Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing.
