Sobre este artículo
New York: Unpublished, 1902. leather-bound scrapbook. 11 1/4 inches by 14 inches. On November 15, 1902 a farewell dinner for the French ambassador to the United States was hosted by Senator Chauncey M. Depew and James Hazen Hyde, majority stockholder in the Equitable Life Assurance Society. As ambassador, Jules Cambon had played a significant role in negotiating the peace treaty which had signalled an end to the Spanish-American War. The dinner celebrating him was one of the year's major society events, attracting the attendance of Mark Twain, Woodrow Wilson, J. P. Morgan, and other major figures, as well as a letter of regret from President Theodore Roosevelt. Offered here is Hyde's personal scrapbook containing articles about the event from newspapers throughout the United States. The articles are glued down on heavy scrapbook leaves--a total of 42 scrapbook pages of clippings, Hyde's personal bookplate is attached to the verso of the front cover. The heavy leather-bound scrapbook is in about very good condition: clean and tight, with only light toning of the newsprint articles. The leather is rubbed, and there is some chipping and fraying at head and foot of the spine.. Unique Item. Hardcover. Very Good-. Obllong 4to. Manuscript.
