A handsome production from the Pigeonhole Press in Savannah, giving an account of Georgia's first printer and publisher, and founder of THE GEORGIA GAZETTE, James Johnston. Includes linoleum-cut illustrations and a reproduction of the titlepage of DIRECTIONS FOR THE OFFICERS OF HIS MAJESTY'S GENERAL COURT...OF THE PROVINCE OF GEORGIA which Johnston printed in 1771

Publisher's printed note laid in; also laid in is an unsigned retained copy of a 1959 typed note from Richard Archer, Custodian of Rare Books at Williams College, to Dilley, proprietor and printer at the Pigeonhole Press, thanking him for sending a copy of this book and discussing some printing matters regarding his own efforts with his Hippogriff Press.
