Color wraps, French flaps, 248 pp., 172 plates, chiefly in color, 5 fold-outs. Photo is of a previous coyp; this copy is NOT ex-library with label to spine. Issued in conjunction with a series of 1977-1978 exhibitions, beginning at the Whitney Museum in New York. The plates make up the bulk of the book; the text covers the topics 1) impressions of the artist, 2) a brief history of the work, and 3) the function of the observer. Also includes a bibliography and an index of illustrated works.
