An ink birthday note dated 1944 at top of first front end paper. DJ glossy, a dark color-illustration of a horse race on front and spine, yellow along edges, white back is lightly browned with titles. DJ has tiny tear at spine top right edge, a micro-nick to spine bottom edge, a tiny tear at bottom back edge. Near Very Good DJ/Fair book.

Frontispiece on glossy paper stock, is not credited and is the only illustration. Author Masefield was the Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom for more than 35 years.
